Bolivian man nabbed on suspicion of cocaine smuggling.

NARITA, Japan, Dec. 13 Kyodo

A 39-year-old Bolivian man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle about 3.3 kilograms of cocaine into Japan, police and airport customs officials said Wednesday.

According to investigations, Jorge Eguino attempted to smuggle the drug Nov. 24 on arriving at Narita airport from La Paz via Brazil and Germany. The cocaine had an estimated street value of 200 million yen, police said.

Eguino hid four plastic bags of cocaine in a suitcase with a double bottom, police said, but customs officials became suspicious over its thickness and found the cocaine through X-ray examination.

''I accepted the suitcase concealing the cocaine from a man in La Paz and tried to smuggle it in order to repay debts,'' Eguino was quoted as telling investigators.
