Boingo gives carriers a Wi-Fi jump start.
Boingo has already teamed with two providers for its Boingo Platform Services offering: EarthLink and Fiberlink Communications. T-Mobile is also partnering with Boingo to use authentication services and software to let users roam between networks, but T-Mobile and Boingo--the two biggest players in the Wi-Fi hotspot market--are not letting their users roam onto each other's networks.
Later this year, Boingo will add support for 2.5G WWAN technologies (GPRS, CDMA 1XRTT, and iDEN) to its sniffer software, letting wireless carriers combine wireless data services with Wi-Fi access through a single user interface. The new version of Boingo software will let subscribers set their preferences for primary and back-up networks.
