Bodybuilders excel in India.

BAHRAIN won three gold medals and one bronze yesterday in the final show of the 43rd Asian Bodybuilding Championship held in Aurangabad, India. Sami Al Haddad was in flawless form as he took the gold in the under-100kg category to headline the kingdom's achievements. Compatriot Arafat Yaqoob then overcame a tough challenge from a South Korean opponent to claim first place in the under-75kg class.

Raed Fuad came away with the kingdom's third gold after taking the over-100kg group. It was a fine showing from the Bahraini, who overcame early jitters to emerge victorious on his international debut.

Finally, Nasser Allah Al Mosawi rounded out Bahrain's impressive medal tally with a bronze in the under-80kg category. Al Mosawi took advantage of the experience he gained in his first participation of the Asian championship held last year.

Bahrain's strong results helped the nationals claim second place overall in the competition.

Bahrain Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation (BBWF) president Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, who is in India with the squad, praised the team for their superb showing.

The nationals are scheduled to return to Bahrain tomorrow morning at 8.30am, when they will be treated to an official reception.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdulla was yesterday elected as the new president of the Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ABBF). Further, ABBF members approved the move of the federation's headquarters from Singapore to Bahrain.

These were confirmed in a general congress held by the ABBF on the sidelines of the championship.

General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys) president Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa congratulated Shaikh Abdulla on winning the presidency.

Shaikh Fawaz added that the ABBF's new location in the kingdom is a victory for the Arab sports family.

The Goys chief also praised the national team for their brilliant showing at the continental championship, and commended the BBWF for their efforts in helping the squad achieve their goals.
