BeautyLab Pre-Tan Skin Polish, PS18
Beauty ed: With summer just around the corner, fake tan season is too. There's nothing worse than a patchy tan, so this BeautyLab offering preps skin for fakery. The pump was handy and my tan went on evenly, but it wasn't outstanding enough to warrant the price.
Reader tester says: 'Easy to dispense, and I didn't need too much as it lathered really well. I was actually surprised at how smooth my skin felt afterwards, and it smelled really nice. I'd definitely use this again.' Rosie Hopegood, London
Le Couvent des Minimes Botanical Recipe of Love Exfoliating Pulp, PS7
Beauty ed: Fresh from the south of France, this new brand has launched into Boots and offers some impressive skin and body goodies. The pulp has orange blossom extract and is packed with vitamin E. Nice, and surprisingly 'boutique' for PS7.
Reader tester says: 'A finer scrub than I'm used to, but that made it easy to spread. It didn't feel scratchy to use, and the citrus smell stayed on my skin for a good few hours. Lovely.' Janice Daniels, Herts
Clarins Bamboo Exfoliator, PS29
Beauty ed: A spa-worthy scrub. It's got licorice root and shea butter to soften and hydrate, and dried Indian bamboo to slough away dead cells, and firm skin. If you can wince past the astronomical price, it's dreamy. My skin definitely agrees.
Reader tester says: 'This had a really light fragrance for a scrub, and left my skin feeling nourished without causing any dryness or redness. Pricy, but my skin looked and felt noticeably smoother and healthier, even before applying any moisturiser.' Danielle Stacey, Essex
Sanctuary Air-Whipped Souffle Scrub, PS8
Beauty ed: Part of a new pampering range that is like smothering yourself in whipped buttercream (I also adore the shower cream which squeezes out of the tube like cupcake frosting). This scrub is indulgent and creamy but gentle enough to use daily.
Reader tester says: 'This has the classic Sanctuary Spa scent which is so evocative and made it feel like an instant luxury. I used it to prep my skin for tanning and then used it daily so my colour faded nice and evenly. It made my skin feel really smooth and soft. Gorgeous.' Elaine Fletcher, Lincs
Scrub it off
The best ways to buff that skin
Need to get rid of a streaky tan?
Oil removes it quicker than creamy formulas, so pick an oil-based scrub and get buffing.
Some scrubs are gentle enough to use every day, but as a general rule, exfoliating once or twice a week is enough to get rid of dead skin cells without irritating your skin.
Don't forget to exfoliate your face. As it's a more sensitive area than your body, choose a scrub with rounded beads to avoid scratching your skin.
Be careful not to scrub right after you shave, as the beads can aggravate those areas, resulting in ingrown hairs. Leave a day between the two.
If you don't fancy splashing out on a scrub make your own. Mix a few cups of sugar with some coconut oil and a splash of your favourite essential oil. Store in an airtight tub.
