Body found thought to be missing OAP.

A BODY believed to be that of missing pensioner James Winterbottom has been found.

Police confirmed that Mr Winterbottom's family have been informed.

The 80-year-old went missing last Tuesday night - January 16 - during wintery storms after leaving his home on Moor Park Road, in Didsbury.

He was last seen near to the Parrs Wood cinema complex at around 8.45pm that night and police believe he walked along a stretch of Manchester Road, between the complex and Cheadle. The body was found on Saturday morning in a stretch of the River Mersey, police said. No further details have been revealed.

Formal identification was due to take place yesterday but police said Mr Winterbottom's family have been told.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said: "This morning we've sadly located a body in the River Mersey, who we believe to be James Winterbottom, who went missing on January 16. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, who've been informed this morning. A formal identification will take place."
