A CROOK who raided homes to steal keys to high-value cars was caught out after taking boastful "trophy pictures" on his mobile phone.

Lewis Parry, 23, was jailed for 10 years for his role in a gang which trawled North Wales, Merseyside and Lancashire to burgle homes.

Between December 2013 and January this year, he and a gang of others yet to be brought to justice targeted homes and garages in North Wales in a "concerted effort to steal cars".

Expensive vehicles were routinely stolen, including a Jaguar which was used as a getaway car in an armed robbery of a newsagent in Merseyside.

One of the pictures recovered from Parry's phone showed two men in balaclavas brandishing imitation guns with the cash they plundered.

Judge Robert Warnock said Parry, of St Paul's Close, Kirkby, had a "preoccupation with high-value motor vehicles". He said: "Put bluntly, you are thoroughly dishonest and violent. You have no respect for others, their feelings, their property or their entitlement not to have there lives ruined by you.

She told how the cat flap was removed from a home in Northop, Flintshire, and a phone, laptop, bank cards and keys to a VM Golf were taken.

In Ewloe, PS630 cash was stolen along with a VW Touran, while in Hawarden, a victim woke to find a key for his Audi RS4 had been taken.

The cat flap ruse also enable the crooks to steal engagement and wedding rings from a house in Mancot, near Queensferry, along with the keys to a Renault Megane.

Garages were also raided as the thieves looked for expensive Christmas presents to steal, Ms Daley said.

On January 27 this year, a Jaguar XKF was stolen by Parry from Southport. He stupidly took photos on his mobile phone of his illicit prize and also of an unmarked police patrol car that he passed.

The car was used in a robbery the same night but bragging pictures on Parry's phone linked him to the crime.

He admitted his role as a getaway driver. He also admitted burglary, theft, conspiracy to burgle, robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Parry was described by Judge Warnock as having a "deeply troubling" criminal record.

Charles Lander, defending, said Parry was remorseful: "This is a defendant who now realises the wrong of his actions."

Judge Warnock commended the work of North Wales and Merseyside police for bringing Parry to justice.

"His conviction and sentence sends out a strong message such criminals are not beyond the law and that North Wales Police will relentlessly pursue them and make sure they are brought to justice."
