Blues in talks with Dutch midfielder.

Byline: Paul Suart With Blues

BLUES boss Gary Rowett was today edging closer to his fourth signing of the summer with Dutch midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld in Birmingham for advanced talks.

Groningen confirmed yesterday their 25-year-old captain was travelling to England yesterday after Blues triggered his release clause. Kieftenbald, a defensive midfielder, was left out of the Dutch club's friendly against Roda KiJC yesterday.

Should the move go through, Kieftenbald will follow Adam Legzdins, Jacques Maghoma and Tomasz Kuszczak through the doors of St Andrew's. Capped at Under-21 level for Holland, Kieftenbald made 35 appearances last season as Groningen lifted the KNVB Cup, the Dutch equivalent to the FA Cup and the first piece of silverware in the club's history.

Kieftenbald began his career as a youth player at amateur Dutch side V.V Lemelerveld.

He was spotted by FC Twente, but failed to break into the first team and moved onto Groningen in 2010.0 His arrival could be very timely with Blues toothless in midfield in the 2-0 TURN. TOPAGE46
