Blue heaven; THIS SEASON, THERE'S ONLY ONE COLOUR FOR GARDENS. AND HAS STEFAN BUCZACKI GOT HUES FOR YOU!. PICTURE BY LINDA BURGESS.

Blue is one of the most elusive of gardening's colours. There are a few periods of the year when you can see blue flowers in quantity but many months when there isn't a blue, or even a purple, in sight. Yet gardeners ask me for suggestions of blue flowers and borders more than any other shade. So try my calendar of annuals, perennials, bulbs and shrubs to give you blue flowers all summer.

APRIL

Viola, Pulmonaria, Primula. BULBS: Iris, Bluebell, Muscari, Chionodoxa, Hyacinth.

MAY

Campanula. BULBS: Iris, Fritillaria, Tulip, Muscari, Chionodoxa. SHRUBS: Persian Lilac, Clematis, Rhododendron (Blue Tit or Augustinii).

JUNE

Convolvulus Ipomoea, Sweet Pea, Morning Glory, Borage, Lobelia, Viola, Salvia Patens, Nigella, Ageratum, Nemophila, Centaurea, Brachycome, Felicia, Anchusa, Campanula, Delphinium, Iris, Geranium, Veronica, Aconitum, Meconopsis, Gentian, Balloon Flower, Tradescantia, Scabious. BULBS: Allium. SHRUBS: Lilac, Buddleia, Plumbago, Passion Flower, Lavender, Clematis, Tibouchina (glory bush), Hydrangea, Hibiscus, Abutilon.

JULY

Convolvulus Ipomoea, Sweet Pea, Morning Glory, Borage, Lobelia, Viola, Salvia Patens, Nigella, Ageratum, Nemophila, Centaurca, Brachycome, Anchusa Iris, Geranium, Meconopsis, Gentian, Tradescantia, Scabious. BULBS: Allium. SHRUBS: Passion Flower, Lavender, Plumbago, Perovskia, Lilac, Buddleia, Tibouchina (glory bush), Hydrangea, Hibiscus, Clematis, Felicia.

AUGUST

Borage, Lobelia, Viola, Salvia Patens, Nigella, Ageratum, Nemophila, Centaurea, Brachycome, Felicia, Anchusa, Delphinium, Geranium, Gentian, Michaelmas Daisy. BULBS: Agapanthus, Allium. SHRUBS: Hebe, Buddleia, Tibouchina (glory bush), Perovskia, Clematis, Felicia, Hydrangea, Hibiscus.
