Muscat: Team Blue Star won the inaugural team championship at the Bank Muscat-sponsored Annual Badminton Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club, Muscat and duo of Errol D'Souza and Prajith Prabha capped their fine run winning the Mens-A doubles title. Team Blue Star, comprising of Ashutosh Pant, Ajin Tom, Suresh K, Arun Nair and Niyati Rao were the outright favourites and they justified that with a 2-0 victory over the second seeded team of Crusaders, led by Noel Halister with Pranav Rao, Percy Pereira, Francis PT and Percy Coelho as the other team members. Ashutosh Pant and Ajin Tom got the ball rolling for Blue Star winning the first doubles tie with a fighting 21-15, 21-17 victory of Percy Pereira and Francis PT. Suresh and Arun achieved victory for Blue Star defeating Noel Halister and Pranav Rao 21-13, 21-18. Noel and Pranav gave their name some hope when they led 17-12 in the second and well placed to force the decider. It is here that the experience of Suresh and Arun served them. Suresh used uncanny placements and Arun banged in powerful smashes to make a recovery. Noel and Pranav went into a shell as their opponents gathered momentum and leveled at 18-all and went on to wrap up the game to register victory for Blue Star. Darkhoses of the tournament, the duo of Errol D'Souza and Prajith Prabha capped their fine run at the tournament with victory in the final of the Mens-A Doubles. The effect of their loss in the team final seemed to have affected them as Noel and Percy's otherwise sound combination, faltered against Errol and Prajith who showed no signs of nerves and played with confidence to outplay Noel and Percy 21-14, 21-16 to claim the Mens-A Doubles title.
