BLUE SHIELD OF CALIFORNIA has named ALAN SOKOLOW M.D. as senior vice president and chief medical officer. Sokolow will oversee health management and clinical quality improvement strategies, including Blue Shield's critical-care management and Healthy Lifestyle Rewards programs.

Most recently, Sokolow served as chief medical officer at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. Before Empire, Sokolow worked as chief medical officer for intelliClaim, LLC and as medical director and officer of Oxford Health Plans. He has also served on the board of directors of the Blue Health Intelligence initiative of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
