Blue Ridge Networks Partners with Wyse Technology to Offer Highly Secure Thin-Client Product.
CHANTILLY, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2004
High-security technology reduces impact of malicious enterprise code infections, improving productivity
Blue Ridge Networks, a leader in secure communications, announced today that it is partnering with Wyse Technology, the domain experts and market leader in server-centric computing, to offer a Blue Ridge secure thin-client solution that reduces the impact of enterprise virus, worm, and Trojan attacks as well as accelerate recovery time.
By integrating Blue Ridge's accredited, high-security BorderGuard(TM) technology with the inherent security and administrative advantages of award-winning Wyse(R) Winterm(TM) thin clients, Blue Ridge delivers highly effective malicious software protection that can reduce overall IT costs while improving security and end-user productivity. When a user is on a non-enterprise network with potential security risks, Blue Ridge blocks malicious virus attacks such as the W32.Blaster.Worm, and ensures that such viruses cannot invade the user's computer. For an enterprise network that has been invaded by an email worm such as the recent W32/Netsky.B@mm worm, the Blue Ridge system allows an IT administrator to reboot an infected client, which effectively purges the malicious infection.
"Recovering from enterprise-wide virus infections can be extremely difficult because PCs on the network are not under the direct control of the IT Staff, and are constantly re-infecting the enterprise network," said Tom Gilbert, Chief Technology Officer of Blue Ridge Networks. "The Blue Ridge solution, utilizing Wyse's proven thin-client platform, addresses this problem and offers the high-security features necessary to significantly mitigate that impact of enterprise virus infections. The less an enterprise has to deal with viruses, the more productive their workers can be."
Several components of the Blue Ridge secure thin client help to protect the desktop from intrusive viruses, including a fixed operating system that can prohibit unapproved devices and a write filter that prevents changes to the Flash memory system. In addition, the client allows only secure, authenticated access back to the corporate network and after a user session the user's thin client resets so that any malicious code downloaded during the session is purged from the operating system. For added security, Blue Ridge's Firewall-X prevents the thin client from communicating to any other systems except those at corporate headquarters, ensuring the device is always under the protection of the corporate security policy.
"Blue Ridge's high-security software is a complement to our thin-client platform," said Mike DeNeffe, Senior Director of the Wyse Winterm business line. "Companies can enjoy the cost benefits, security and flexibility of thin-client computing with an added level of protection from the threats of malicious software and viruses on the enterprise network."
