Blood donation drive on Twitter.

Summary: JEDDAH: Saudis among others are taking to the social media site Twitter to persuade people to donate blood.

Saudi tweeters posted links, contact numbers, and e-mails of people within their city or town willing to donate blood to needy patients. Others tweeted the numbers and contact numbers of hospital patients in need of blood and with the hospitals' names and locations. "A patient in Riyadh specialist hospital is in dire need of a blood transfusion of any type, please retweet," tweeted @abulojain1. Another user @FaisalAbuthnain tweeted on Sunday: "Patient Hussain Mohammad who suffered from a brain hemorrhage and is sedated at Al Jabreyah hospital is in dire need of B+ blood type, please help." Another tweeted: "Save a pregnant woman's life and the life of her baby by donating your blood." Online blood donation drives on Twitter were not limited to Saudi Arabia; several Kuwaitis tweeted of their country's urgent need for blood. Kuwaiti tweeters used the hashtag #Q8Blood. "Dear tweeters, Kuwait's blood bank is in need of blood types O+ O- and A-. We need your donations," tweeted @bourashed. "Blood type AB for a patient at Mubarak hospital is needed immediately," tweeted @hjm_almusaibeeh. Tweeters expressed their hopes and wishes that people will take these requests seriously and donate blood to the needy or at least spread the word and help save lives.
