'My sacred mission is to bring order to Romania. If someone lies or commits

any injustice, he is not likely to stay alive, whether nobleman, priest or

common man. There must be security for all in my land. If they say I'm a vindictive man, they fear me. And that is well. When a prince is powerful at home, he will be able to do as he wills. If I am feared by the right people,

Romania will be strong.' -- Vlad Dracula

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ --

Known throughout the world, the legend of Dracula has fascinated millions of people for centuries. USA Network goes behind the myths and brings the real person to life, in the historical thriller and love story, "DARK PRINCE: THE TRUE STORY OF DRACULA." It is the story of a man haunted by his sense of mission, destiny, and above all, vengeance. This two hour original movie takes place in the 15th century and follows the fearless leader Vlad Dracula, Prince of Romania, from his boyhood all the way to his tragic death.

Filmed entirely on location in Transylvania and other parts of Romania, "Dark Prince" boasts an international cast. The movie stars Rudolf Martin ("Beggars and Choosers," "High Art") as Vlad Dracula; Jane March ("The Lover," "Color of Night"), as his true love and passionate wife Lidia; Roger Daltrey ("Tommy," "The Magical Legend of Leprechauns") as King Janos, the King of Hungary; Michael Sutton ("Inventing the Abbotts," "General Hospital") as Radu, Dracula's envious brother; and Peter Weller ("Robocop," "Mighty Aprhrodite") as Father Stefan, a Greek Orthodox priest who tried to excommunicate Vlad.

Dracula, commonly referred to as Vlad the Impaler (for his graphically drastic methods of having his enemies killed), was one of history's most feared and powerful rulers. What many don't know is that he was considered to be a savior of his people and a liberator of the poor -- the Robin Hood of his time. Vlad was driven with a determination to avenge his father's brutal murder and his brother Radu's betrayal, while saving Romania from the Turks. His severe methods stemmed from a childhood marked by extraordinary violence and personal loss, family tragedies and multiple imprisonments. "Dark Prince" also delves into the intense and deep love story between Vlad and his wife, Lidia, and their painful struggle over control of their son.

The executive producers of "Dark Prince" are Donald Kushner and Peter Locke, and Butch Kaplan serves as producer. The movie was penned by Tom Baum and directed by Joe Chappelle.
