BEIRUT: A man was critically injured when a storm overnight caused his tanker truck to catch fire on the Minyeh-Dinnieh highway, the state-run National News Agency reported Wednesday.

The truck flipped over around midnight, probably due to heavy rain, causing the diesel tank to blow up.

The explosion caused another car, a Honda belonging to Wadi al-Nahleh Mayor Khaled Jazzar, to catch fire as well.

Jazzar was unharmed, but the truck driver, identified as Syrian national Aa.E., was taken to a hospital and is in a critical situation.

The mayor said that as he was driving with his friends through the rain, he saw the driver, who was on fire, leaving the truck. Jazzar said he and his friends went to help him, and shortly after his car caught fire.
