Blast for ignorant cat owners.

A RUGBY veterinary nurse has hit out at irresponsible cat owners who don't get their pets spayed and then find themselves with an unwanted litter of kittens.

Laura Robinson, who works at the Walker Duffin and Daniel surgery on High Street, Hillmorton, was speaking after a black cat and its litter were found cowering in a cardboard box on the towpath of the Oxford Canal last Wednesday.

The cat, which had three young kittens at her side, appeared to have been abandoned.

Miss Robinson said the cats had been brought to the surgery after being found close to the towpath at Crick.

New homes have since been found for the mother and all three kittens. But the surgery still knows of several other cats and kittens which are desperately in need of responsible owners.

Miss Robinson said: "We need to hit the message home - spaying should be the first thing pet owners think about."

Anyone who is interested in re-homing a young cat can contact the surgery on 01788 542221.
