Blame these silly girls and their parents; GEORGE TYNDALE THE MERCURY'S HARD-HITTING COLUMNIST SPEAKS HIS MIND...
THE reaction to the revelation THat eight West Midlands girls aged 13 have given birth during the past five years was inevita ble.
The bleeding heart liberals beat their chests and bleated that these gymslip mothers had been failed by the sex education that is provided for young people.
What utter and complete bilge.
Unless they are incredible thick, these girls know how babies are conceived and how to avoid such a catastrophe.
Unless they are incredibly thick, they know, too, how to obtain contraception.
Let us not lay the blame at society's door but where blame truly rests - with parents who have not brought up their daughters to behave themselves and with the feckless girls themselves who allow themselves to be driven by peer pressure and lust rather than common sense and decency.
The result is that girls are burdened with the onerous responsibility or motherhood before they can cope, their unfortunate offspring are brought up by inadequate parents and society is left to pick up the pieces.
Let us not pretend that it is we who have failed these girls and the progeny.
They are old enough to know how to say no, but choose not to do so.
