Black-tie evening raises PS4k for air medics.

FUNERAL directors in Stockton have raised vital funds through a black-tie event to support the Great North Air Ambulance.

A cheque for more than PS4,700 has been presented to air ambulance staff by The Co-operative Funeralcare.

The funds were raised at the special event at Redworth Hall in County Durham which was attended by more than 100 people and included a raffle and auction, with signed Liverpool and Middlesbrough shirts auctioned off as well as an iPad, a holiday to Spain and signed pictures of the X Factor's Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa.

David Knowles, The Co-operative Funeralcare manager, said: "The air ambulance provides a vital life-saving service in the region and we are delighted to have raised much needed funds to support its work.

"We are grateful for all the gifts which were provided for the auction and for those who attended the black-tie event and made it such a special occasion by raising so much money."

He added: "The success of the night was down to the great support and organisation of our funeral director Kirsty Robinson and the rest of the team."
