Black Caviar clash the aim for Dandy Boy.

DAVID MARNANE'S Royal Ascot winner Dandy Boy could begin a jetsetting winter campaign by clashing with Black Caviar in the Patinack Farm Classic at Melbourne's Spring Carnival in November, writes Jessica L amb.

The six-year-old won the Wokingham Stakes in June, but was unsuited by the heavy ground when stepped up to Group 1 level in the Darley Cup at Newmarket. Marnane will now test Dandy Boy's mettle in next month's Nunthorpe Stakes at York before mapping out the remainder of his season.

He said: "What frustrated me more than anything was that we ran him at Newmarket and learned absolutely nothing. The ground was so soft he was beaten after a furlong and we still don't know if he can make it at that level.

"He came out of it well and is very bright, so he'll go to the Nunthorpe now with Nocturnal Affair and we'll see what happens there.

"However, I am keen on going to Melbourne. He's a good traveller and a long, level track like that suits him. He's settling at home now and I don't think he has to have that fantastic pace that he used to rely on."

Japan, Hong Kong and Dubai could also feature on Dandy Boy's agenda, while Nocturnal Affair may also run in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh on August 12.

The Patinack Farm Classic is a Group 1 run over 6f worth A$750,000 and run on the same day as the Melbourne Cup. The future of Black Caviar, who has won the last two runnings, is set to be decided in the next fortnight following veterinary tests.
