Bishop's wisdom.

HATS off to John Bishop, who spoke out well for Liverpool during a Scouse love-in with Cilla Black on Backchat with Jack Whitehall and His Dad (BBC2, Monday).

After suggestions from Cil that Whitehall Snr wasn't too fond of our city, The Bishop proudly spoke about its proliferation of listed buildings and recent regeneration, saying: "The old snipey little comments about Liverpool don't make sense any more."

Cilla, meanwhile, who pointed out that she hadn't lived in Liverpool for 50 years, seemed to be in a particularly playful mood, jokily telling her fellow guest: "You are dead common and you are dead Liverpool. I am posh. I'm really posh...compared to you!" The audience laughed.

But despite being chuffed with Sheridan Smith's recent portrayal of her, Cil stressed that, at 71, there would be no comeback tour for her.

This viewer was relieved.
