Bishop's University.

Sherbrooke, Quebec

Landmark green achievement by students

Every three years since 1994, students have conducted interviews and site visits, made phone calls, sent emails and summarized their research in Bishop's Campus Environmental Audit. Each student writes one chapter of the report, with topics ranging from land use and parking to food services and energy conservation.

Latest green initiative by administration

The university recently joined up with the City of Sherbrooke and local groups to restore a wetland on campus.

Eco-event that everyone marks on their calendars

Rock meets metal (and other recyclables) at Bishop's musical awareness-raising event, Rock for Recycling. Featuring local bands, and information on recycling and other environmental initiatives, the event presents a pair of seemingly unrelated interests in two-part harmony.

Coolest field course

Offered in the spring term, "Outdoor Recreation" gives students the opportunity to explore the natural and human dimensions of outdoor activities at several local sites. Course content includes theories about the recreational use of natural areas and the institutions, such as Parks Canada, employed to manage them.

Reason students love living in Sherbrooke

Located in Quebec's Eastern Townships, Bishop's campus is close to hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails.
