Bishkek to host workshop on Chinese paper cutting art.

Bishkek State University will host a workshop on Jianzhi, which is traditional Chinese art of cutting paper.

Organizers of the event are the Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva Fund together with the Confucius Institute in Kyrgyzstan.

Cutting the paper not only the art, but also a good tool for the development of motor skills, the organizers say. Educators, parents, and teachers were invited to participate in the event, and all of them will have a chance to practically experience this art.

The workshop will be held by the representatives of the Confucius Institute, who will also talk about the history of this art and its forms.

Chinese Paper Cutting or Jianzhi is the first type of paper cutting design, since paper was invented by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. The art form later spread to other parts of the world with different regions adopting their own cultural styles. Because the cut outs are also used to decorate doors and windows, they are sometimes referred to "chu?ng hu?", meaning Window Flower.
