Birmingham isn't wealthy YOUR story '84,000 children living in poverty' describes Birmingham as a wealthy city.

Yes, there are wealthy people living in the city but Birmingham is most denitely not a wealthy city by British standards.

It is o$cially the ninth most deprived local authority area in England, according to o$cial Government. gures, and currently has one of the highest unemployment rates, combined with one of the lowest average wage levels, in the United Kingdom. Even Manchester and Liverpool have better comparable rates.

Many of these 84,000 children living in poverty in Birmingham are living in some of the poorest districts in the country.

So, how exactly is Birmingham a wealthy city? is is not the 1960s.
