Birmingham International Airport posts record January passenger figures.

The UK's Birmingham International Airport has reported its busiest January on record, with 462,673 passengers travelling through the airport in January 2001 - a 15% increase on January 2000.

Scheduled passengers rose by 23.2% compared to the same month last year, with the strongest European passenger demand seen on routes to Paris, Aberdeen, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Copenhagen.

Passenger growth on scheduled services to Asia rose by 201%, mainly due to the introduction of new services to Tashkent, Islamabad, Karachi and Dubai during 2000.
