BioPharm America[TM] 2012 Program to Feature First SciBX: Science-Business eXchange Innovation in BioPharma Summit.

CARLSBAD, Calif. & BOSTON -- This year, EBD Group's BioPharm America[TM] will partner with Nature Publishing Group and BioCentury Publications Inc. to host the first SciBX: Science-Business eXchange Innovation in BioPharma Summit. EBD Group, the leading partnering firm for the life science industry, will hold its fifth annual BioPharm America[TM] event September 19-21, 2012 in Boston, MA, at the Westin Boston Waterfront in collaboration with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio).

"We are pleased to host this prestigious inaugural SciBX Summit at BioPharm America," said Carola Schropp, President of EBD Group. "We have worked with Nature Publishing Group for many years, and their inclusion in our program will be a highlight of our event this year."

The EBD Group/SciBX collaboration is unique to the life sciences partnering conference in that it will give delegates privileged access to stakeholders, both from industry and academia, in an area of active innovation in biopharma.

This first SciBX Summit will focus on macrocycles and constrained peptides-challenges and applications. In particular, the Summit will focus the discussion around the opportunities afforded by these compounds in the area of targeting intracellular protein-protein interactions vis-a-vis small molecules and other chemical entities. Their potential for improved oral bioavailability and related benefits will also be discussed.

The summit will consist of a plenary panel discussion featuring stakeholders in the space from biotech, pharma and academia. These panelists will convene as a "think tank" in the run-up to the meeting with the goal of providing the foundation for a Roadmap document capturing the landscape and the challenges, opportunities and necessary next steps in the field that would facilitate its advancement to the next phase of development. This final report will be complemented with insights gained during the Summit taking place at BioPharm America.

"The aim of these Summits, of which the September event at BioPharm America will be the inaugural event, is to capture the interest of all those interested in innovation in the life sciences, and in particular in areas in which there is obvious excitement at the confluence of academia, VCs, biotech and pharma," said Gaspar Taroncher-Oldenburg, PhD, Managing Editor and Associate Publisher of SciBX. "The focus of this first Summit, macrocycles and constrained peptides, is a perfect example of such a sweet spot in innovation where we expect the frank and in depth discussion within the Think Tank and at the event itself to lead to the formulation of a roadmap of innovation that stakes out the hurdles and goalposts on the path to the next level of development in the area."
