BioMicro Systems Introduces a Dual Chamber MAUI(R) Mixer For Microarray Hybridization.

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- BioMicro Systems announces the introduction of the MAUI(R) Mixer DC, a new dual hybridization chamber specially designed to allow 2 independent arrays to be processed simultaneously on a single 1" x 3" glass slide. The Mixer DC is the latest addition to a line of disposable, mixing micro-chamber products used with the company's proprietary MAUI(R) Hybridization System.

"Scientific researchers are always looking for ways to save time. The dual chamber MAUI Mixer is the first microarray hybridization chamber with mixing that allows researchers to process twice the number of arrays using half of the amount of hybridization buffer per array compared to other methods," said Dr. Nils Adey, BioMicro's Chief Scientist. Each MAUI Mixer DC can accommodate two 20 mm x 22.5 mm arrays using only 20 microliters of buffer for each array, the smallest volume in the industry. BioMicro is looking for additional ways to tailor this MAUI technology to meet the growing needs of genomic, proteomics, and tissue array researchers and can create custom hybridization products to meet those individual needs.

MAUI Mixers adhere to standard glass microarray slides to form sealed, ultra low volume micro-chambers that allow hybridizations to be performed without sample loss or evaporation. Hybridization solutions can also be recovered when precious samples are used or regulatory requirements warrant post-hybridization sample archiving. The MAUI System's active micro-mixing results in better uniformity and a 3-5-fold increase in sensitivity. Hybridization times can also be reduced to just a few hours if reaction time is a higher priority than sensitivity. The MAUI System's simplicity and ease of use further improves consistency of results from experiment to experiment and user to user.
