Binchy is blooming.

BEST-SELLING Irish author Maeve Binchy, 68, has laughed off rumours that she's at death's door.

Although the Circle Of Friends writer has been dogged by heart problems in recent years she said the stories of her imminent demise were wildly exaggerated.

The reports prompted an avalanche of fan mail and get-well-soon cards from around the world.

Maeve said: "I couldn't believe it.. to say I was embarrassed is a bit of an understatement."

The award-winning author thinks the confusion sprung from an interview about her new book Heart And Soul which centres around a cardiac hospital and was part inspired by her own experiences.

"It's true, I've had two small heart attacks, one four years ago and one three years ago, but nothing very serious."

Well... Maeve
