Bikers get The Boss running.

FINDING Bruce Springsteen at the side of the road on a broken-down motorcycle sounds like a lyric from one of his songs but it really did happen to a group of bikers.

Members of the Freehold American Legion were riding after a Veterans Day event in New Jersey on Friday when Dan Barkalow spotted the stranded Born to Run star up ahead.

He said: "Bikers gotta stick together. I stopped to see if he needed help, and it was Bruce."

Dan and his pals tried in vain to help get The Boss's bike running.

When they realised it was a lost cause, Springsteen hopped on the back of Ryan Bailey's bike and they headed to a local bar.

Dan said: "We sat there and shot the breeze for a half hour, 45 minutes until his ride showed up.

"Nice guy, real down to earth. Just talked about motorcycles and his old Freehold days."

Springsteen, 67, was raised in Freehold and still lives in New Jersey. The American Legion said he is eligible to join since his father was a veteran.

Ryan said: "It was nice to help out - one Freehold person helping out another."
