Big spider becoming a big star.

A GIANT spider escaped on to the streets of Newcastle.

The giant arachnid, known as "Fluffy Steve" took a quick break from its role in the Theatre Royal's current show - the record-breaking pantomime Sleeping Beauty - to say hello to the public.

He is the largest spider in pantomime history, reported to be over four metres tall and with a leg span of over 10 metres, and very hairy.

In the pantomime Sleeping Beauty, Fluffy plays the monstrous pet of evil fairy Carabosse, whose wicked plan sends Princess Beauty asleep for 100 years.

The show is the Theatre's most popular show ever, in terms of people through the door, and has now sold 83,000 tickets for all performances with another two weeks still to go.

Sleeping Beauty - the Pantomime of your Dreams will appear at the Theatre Royal until Saturday 21 January 2012. Tickets can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 11 21 21 or online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk
