Big helping of cheese makes this club a winner; CLUB CHEESE CLUB SCOTLAND Malmaison, Glasgow 04.02.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this event - would it be a stuffy crowd of cheese bores and OTT foody types? I couldn't have been more wrong.

The friendly atmosphere made everyone feel welcome, from first timers to regulars, and the crowd was just like our group - pals out for a laugh and some good cheese.

The big surprise was the value. For PS15 a head, you get a glass of prosecco on arrival, plus three HEFTY slabs of cheese, not the slivers you see on an expensive hotel cheese board. Each cheese comes with not only three accompaniments, but an alcoholic drink specially chosen to complement the flavours. So that's four drinks and loads of cheese for PS15. If there's a better bargain available in Glasgow of a weekend, I'd like to know about it.

Spanish cheeses were the theme on our visit, with one chosen by each of the three brains behind the club, Cat, Derek and Matt, who met when they all appeared on Come Dine With Me.

Derek's cheese was Spanish classic Mahon, served with rosemary cracker, homemade red pepper tapenade and black pepper and tarragon oil, plus a shot of Ibicenco liqeur Hierbas. Matt chose blue zinger Valdeon/Picos De Europa, with poppy seed and sesame cracker, hot beetroot chutney and prosciutto with red wine. Cat went for classic Manchego with crackerbread, quince jelly and vanilla cream - yes, really - with a mini bottle of sangria.

The Mahon was amazing, but the Manchego was a revelation with vanilla cream and sangria - it was sublime.

Cheese Club Scotland is back on March 18 with Irish cheeses, and we will be back. A new kind of clubbing, where cheesiness is a GOOD thing.
