Big explosion made at Kambar-Ata-2 HES.

The big explosion was made today at the Kambar-Ata-2 hydroelectric station construction site necessary to shift the significant scope of rocks to make a dam.According to preliminary estimations, 3.8 million cubic meters of rocks were shifted to the valley as a result of the explosion. The height of the created dam will be 60 meters in height. Additional 10 meters will be erected from concrete.Organization and preparation for explosion was carried out by Russia\'s Corporation Soyuzhydrospetstroi.2.8 thousand tons of the explosive Granulit-RP was used. The explosive had 0.9 TNT equivalent, i.e. the power of explosion was 2.5 kilotons of TNT. The seismicity of the explosion was to reach 9 scores in the epicenter. No information was received about the strength of tremors yet. The Director of the Seismology Institute and member of the staff for explosion at Kambar-Ata-2 hydroelectric station, Kanatbek Abdrakhmatov, said the big explosion will not provoke the seismic activity, its impact will be limited to several kilometers.In the village of Kara-Jigach, the closest settlement 4.5 km away from the explosion site, the earth tremors will be felt 3-4 scores. Around 2,500 people living in the village will be evacuated prior to the explosion. No tremors will be near the Toktogul dam area.President Kurmanbek Bakiev and Prime Minister Daniar Usenov watched after final preparations for the explosion and the explosion itself via teleconference bridge organized by the National Broadcasting Company NTRK.
