Big deal: SCH takes a byte out of Europe.
Specialist Computer Holdings has become the nerve centre of a huge Europe-wide business empire following a pounds 115 million takeover.
SCH, founded by entrepreneur Peter Rigby, was catapulted to the number one position in its sector in Europe after acquiring Info' Products/Allium, the giant information services division built up by Dutch group Buhrmann.
The deal means Mr Rigby now heads a 'pan-European' organisation with a turnover of pounds 1.35 billion, employing more than 4,000 personnel from 50 offices in seven major European countries and with its international nerve centre at SCH's offices in Warwick Road, Birmingham.
And last night he and advisers on the deal were honoured at a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in an event backed by Birmingham Forward and The Birmingham Post. In Birmingham Forward's annual meeting held prior to the awards, Adrian Bland, senior partner of the Birmingham office of law firm Eversheds, was named chairman of the professional services lobby group in succession to David Clarke.
