Big blunder Down Under; NEW RELEASES.

Byline: JESSICA MELLOR

AUSTRALIA (12A, pounds 21.99) ..

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman make an unlikely match in this gorgeous but messy epic tale about love, war, racism and cattle ranching.

Set in Northern Australia around the time of the Second World War, Kidman is English aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley who reluctantly employs the rough and ready Drover (Jackman) to help her save her failing cattle ranch.

Along the way, she adopts Aboriginal boy Nullah (Brandon Walters), survives the Japanese bombing of Darwin, and falls for the bullish Drover, while still retaining her porcelain complexion and English reserve.

This looks amazing and was enthusiastically shot by Baz Luhrmann, but it is just ridiculously long.

Flitting from Western to war story, this is both confused and off-kilter. POSH: Nicole Kidman
