Big B's fresh strides on the small screen.

SUPERSTAR Amitabh Bachchan is all set to take his tete- a- tete with television to the next level.

After ruling the small screen for years together as the host of the super- successful Kaun Banega Crorepati , Bachchan will now be seen in a soon- to- beaired serial to be co- produced by his banner Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited ( ABCL).

The mega- budget show has been touted as possibly the most expensive soap on Indian television ever and will be aired on Sony.

While Big B will regularly feature in the first few episodes to promote the show, it is not yet clear if he will have a fullfledged role. No deadline has been declared yet, but it is expected that the serial could go on air in a few months.

Wife Jaya Bachchan is said to be the brain behind the project.

Under ABCL, Jaya had produced the superhit sitcom Dekh Bhai Dekh in the early nineties.

The new show is expected to revive ABCL's stakes in the small- screen market.

" ABCL is keen to make a foray into the small screen space and wants to produce TV shows on a regular basis," a source at the channel said.

Reports suggest the show will be a dramatised version of reallife events but will be fictitious all the way. Sources in ABCL further added it will be different from routine daily soaps.

With non- fiction shows such as CID and Crime Patrol breaking new ground in the world of Indian television, ABCL is reportedly aiming at developing a similar kind of programme on television.

" The unit working on this project is developing content that can be converted into a longrunning show. The marketing team is pitching the show for simultaneous telecast on two channels," the source added.

" The content of the show will be different from what is churned out regularly on TV. Thus, the unit has been guarded about the content," the source said.

Right now, Bachchan is busy preparing for his role in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha, which will be shot in Bhopal. He might shoot for the TV show after he's done with the first schedule of Satyagraha . Meanwhile, the audition for the rest of the cast is under way at various studios in Andheri over the past one month and filming will start once the preproduction work is complete.

The official spokesperson of Sony TV chose to remain tightlipped on the budget but Amitabh Bachchan's presence is sure to increase ratings.
