Bernie Sanders applauds Cardi B's interest in being a politician.
In a series of tweets spanning multiple days, the rapper has discussed running for office and how she would tackle issues like gun control.
'I think I want to be a politician.I really love government even tho (sic) I don't agree with Goverment (sic),' Cardi, 27, tweeted Sunday.
The following day, she got a bit more specific on her political aspirations.
'I do feel like if I go back to school and focus up I can be part of Congress. I (expletive) have sooo much ideas that make sense,' she tweeted. 'I just need a couple of years of school and I can shake the table.'
The 'Money' rapper has at least one person in her corner after Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders applauded her interest.
'Cardi B is deeply concerned about what's happening in the country,' the 78-year-old Vermont senator told TMZ ahead of Tuesday's Democratic debate in Iowa. 'She knows what it's like to live in poverty and struggle, and it would be great for her to bring that experience to politics.'
The feeling is mutual. Cardi, who was born Belcalis Almanzar, openly endorsed Sanders for presidency in July 2019.
'I been reading about Bernie Sanders and I'm really sad how we let him down in 2016 This man been fighting for equal rights,HUMAN rights for such along time,' she tweeted at the time. 'Seeing this country become a better place been really his passion for a long time not a new front for a campaign.'
The pair also collaborated for a video campaign in August 2019, in which they discussed issues facing the country.
Despite Sanders' approval, many social media users don't particularly like the sound of Senator Cardi. The Grammy winner received some flack for her congressional ambitions, including a woman who tweeted, 'my cat is more qualified to run for Congress than Cardi B.'
