Bernard wary of Rommedahl pace.

Olivier bernard knows he will need to have his skates on in tonight's UEFA Cup tie with PSV Eindhoven.

If he does, then the French defender will be able to look forward to a possible semi-final showdown with Marseille ( and his big pal Didier Drogba.

In the 1-1 first-leg draw at the Philips Stadion, Bernard had to contend with the diving antics of Eindhoven's South Korean right-winger Ji-Sung Park.

But in the latter stages, PSV coach Guus Hiddink sent on his flying right-winger, Danish international Dennis Rommedahl.

Bernard coped well with the Dane but he knows it will be tougher tonight, as he expects Rommedahl to be on from the start.

Bernard said: "Rommedahl is the quickest player I have ever come up against and his pace is undoubtedly his greatest asset.

"We will have to stop him tonight."

Meanwhile, Drogba grabbed his fourth goal of the competition when he gave Marseille a 1-0 first-leg lead in their quarter-final with Inter Milan ( but excessive celebrations cost him a third yellow card in Europe this season, meaning the Ivory Coast striker misses tonight's second leg in the San Siro.

Marseille knocked out Liverpool in the last round, and Bernard is hoping Newcastle can succeed where the Reds failed.

He said: "I would prefer to play Marseille if we get through to the semis as Drogba is a good friend.

"We were on holiday on the Reunion Island at the same time last summer ( but there would be no time to be friends on the pitch."
