Benfield lads prove San-sational in Skegness!

NEWCASTLE Benfield Juniors San Siro do like to be beside the seaside - and Skegness in particular!

The under-11 side was crowned ESF Tournament winners at the Lincolnshire coastal town for a second successive year.

Benfield played five games in the group qualifying stage.

They defeated Syston Town 3-0, Britannia Juniors 1-0, Whickham Fellside Yellows 3-0, Vickerstown Juniors 6-0 and FC Newlands 3-1. Those results left them top of their group and progressed them into the semi-finals, where they overcame Biggleswade Town Youth 1-0. San Siro then faced Burnley Belvedere in the decider - triumphing 2-0. Following that success, the Newcastle squad now hopes to complete another double.

The team will be invited to attend the ESF Champions of Champions tournament at St George's Park in July - a competition they won in 2016.

Coach Nicky Evans said: "I am so proud of the boys - it is a fantastic achievement.

"Twenty-four teams contested the event so for us to win it again is a massive thing.

"Now we are hoping to do the double at St George's Park."
