Benedetti tied for third.

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Oregon's Joey Benedetti fired a career-low 66 in the second round on Monday and finished tied for third after the first 36 holes of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club Golf Course.

Benedetti had a 6-under 136 total on a the par-71, 6,606-yard course, sitting four strokes behind leader Michael Watson of California at 132, with his Cal teammate George Gandranata at 134.

Oregon State's Diego Velasquez stands at 137 and Mitch Gillis at 139.

The Beavers are tied for third with Penn State at 561. California leads at 543, with San Jose State second at 553. The Ducks are seventh at 566.

UO's Derek Sipe shot 142, and teammates Matt Ma and Zeke Reyna fired 144. OSU James Allenby shot 142 and Jerimiah Oliver 145.

Ducks ninth, Beavers 14th in Washington

SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Oregon State's Jillian Ferrante shot a first-round 74 on Monday to land in seventh place, six shots off the lead, at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by Washington.

Oregon's Kim McCready and Cathryn Bristow carded 77s. The Ducks are ninth at 311. The Beavers are 14th at 321. Arizona State leads with 299.

UO's Kate Hildahl shot 78 and Felicia Eastick 79. OSU's Martha Burkard shot 80, with teammates Jessi Gebhardt at 81, Lauren Archerat at 86 and Julianna Uhrik at 88.

Budke loses match at

U.S. Women's Amateur

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Eugene's Mary Budke lost in the first round of match play Monday at the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship at Sea Island Golf Club.

Noreen Mohler of Bethlehem, Pa., beat Budke, 3 and 2.

OSU's Ducker will sit out basketball season

CORVALLIS - Oregon State junior forward Tiffany Ducker will sit out the 2006-07 season because of personal reasons, Beaver coach LaVonda Wagner said on Monday.

"We respect Tiffany's decision to sit out the upcoming season and she has our full support," said Wagner.

Ducker started all 31 games for the Beavers last season, averaging 6.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Her 79 blocked shots rank in 10th place all-time at OSU.
