Benchtop Video Comparators.
New benchtop digital video comparators have been launched by the L.S. Starrett Co., the models HDV300 and HDV400. According to Mark Arenal, general manager of Starrett Kinemetric Engineering, "Our new generation HDV represents the next step in the evolution of the horizontal digital video measurement systems, dramatically increasing productivity through high-speed electronic comparator measurement." For example, the axis speeds are 10 mm/sec on the Y-axis and 45 mm/sec for Z. The comparators feature a 21 x 5-inch top plate and 12 x 6 inches of travel. Field-of-view (FOV) measurements can encompass an entire small part up to 2.47 x 1.85 inches, or a feature of a larger part. The HDVs are available with 6:5:1 zoom optics. Optics mounting is based on a bayonet fitting so quick changes can be performed. The telecentric optics and zoom optics are mounted by means of a bayonet fitting and can be easily changed by the user in a matter of seconds. The bench top systems have a welded steel housing so they can be deployed on the shop floor. They feature linear glass scales providing 0.00002" (0.5 m) of resolution to read stage motion. Also notable is the software used that allows the HDV to import DXF CAD files and make 2D go/no-go comparisons through video edge detection. starrett.com
