Belarus : Distinguished Belarusians honored with state awards.
The list of the awardees included 100 people: doctors, teachers, scientists, industry and forestry workers, farmers, pilots, railroad and oil industry workers, representatives of the tax authorities, civil servants, intellectuals.
It is symbolic that in the Year of Science we honor the scientists whose achievements are in great demand not only in Belarus but also abroad, the prime minister noted. This year saw a lot of iconic events which reaffirmed the importance of Belarusian science and provided an additional impetus to the popularization of the achievements of Belarusian scientists. The key event was the Second Congress of Scientists which considered in detail the strategy for the development of science until 2040. This is an important document which identifies the prospects of development of science and economy for the decades ahead, the Belarusian head of government said.
The most significant achievements of the outgoing year in science, according to the prime minister, were the launch of electric buses in Minsk, the development of a Gelly-based electric vehicle, the development of unmanned aviation complex Burevestnik with the range of up to 290km, the launch of the manufacture of a lineup of domestic anticancer drugs at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB). Good results were achieved in the domestic healthcare industry, and a large group of health professionals were among the honorees. The prime minister pointed out that today the industry retains its position among the most dynamically developing sectors. In the outgoing year the work was continued to strengthen the infrastructure of the healthcare institutions and to assimilate modern medical technologies of diagnostics and treatment. These reforms are taking place not only in national and regional centers but also at the level of district clinics and hospitals. Every year the healthcare system develops new ways to provide medical care and puts them into practice.
The awards were presented to representatives of the national airline company Belavia. The airline operates flights from Minsk, Brest, Gomel, Grodno and Vitebsk to 49 destinations in 28 states. The air fleet is regularly updated. Another three new aircraft will be purchased in 2018. Awards were presented to employees of the Belarusian Railways. Railway workers have always been the locomotive of progress. There is a big teamwork behind each of them as well as each of you, Andrei Kobyakov said.
Among the award recipients were workers of the production association Belorusneft. Thanks to the high professionalism of its employees the company has been actively working in the oil sectors in Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Ecuador.
The work of farmers was noted as well. In general, good results were achieved in the production of virtually all agricultural goods. Good stocks of the new harvest have been laid, food security of the country ensured. The awards were conferred on culture figures. The year 2017 marked the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing. It was a big date marked by many publishing projects. A significant event was the publication of the personal encyclopedia Francysk Skaryna. This year marked the completion of the large-scale reconstruction of the National Film Studio Belarusfilm. Modern equipment was purchased, a building with two pavilions was built from scratch. Andrei Kobyakov voiced the confidence that all of this will contribute to the active development of the domestic film industry.
