Being professional.

Published -- Sunday 2 February 2014I am writing this in response to the letter by Lala "Being workaholic" (Feb. 1). I fully agree with the writer about maintaining a balance in one's life. I wish to add to this issue. We must realize the true purpose of our lives. It is true that working, having a family and dealing with fellow human beings are all parts of one's life. But the problem is we tend to treat them as the purpose of our lives. We have come into this world for a purpose -- to know ourselves and to know our Creator. Holy Prophet (pbuh) said" "Worship Allah as though you see Him, and though you do not see Him, you know that He sees you." In various verses of the Qur'an, believers have been ordered to ponder over the creation of the universe and to engage in constant remembrance of Allah. So, we should not waste our lives acting as highly professional people, we must seek to strengthen our bond with our Creator. I would like to repeat what Lala had written: I am not against hard work but advocate a balance. We have to set our priorities and our bond with Allah should be on top of that list. If we spend our lives in this manner, I am sure many of our social and personal issues will be resolved in no time. -- Sarra, Jeddah
