Beer distributor expands into new location.

Charlotte, NC-based Tryon Distributing Co., and beer and wine distributor, has purchased a 92,000-square-foot building on Stockholm Court for $1.4 million to accommodate its growth. Tryon Distributing Co. bought the building with an existing tenant -- Superior Fire Hose Corp, -- in place

Tryon Distributing, which employs 63 workers, will occupy 61,000 square feet. Superior Fire Hose will lease the rest, says Brad Johnston, Tryon Distributing president.

The company, which delivers beer and wine throughout the region and into the N.C. mountains, now leases 25,000 square feet in two buildings at 136 E. 36th St.

"We've outgrown this space, and it will be very nice to get all of our operations under one roof," Johnston says. "We're going to end up killing each other if we don't move."

Johnston bought the 4701 Stockholm Court building from New York investor K&S Land, a limited liability company. The building is off South Boulevard, between Arrowood Road and Hebron Street.

Johnston has planned a refurbishing of the space, which should be complete after Labor Day. The move will allow Tryon Distributing to add as many as four employees in the short term, he adds. Johnston has hired Hall Johnston of JDH Development to handle the redevelopment.
