Beckman Coulter adds to assay miniaturization capabilities.

Fullerton, CA 9/18/06 -- Beckman Coulter has agreed to purchase Aurora Discovery's instrumentation asset portfolio, including nanofluidic and detection assets, inventory, and patents and trademarks. Aurora Discovery specializes in products for submicroliter dispensing. Manufacturing will be transferred to Beckman Coulter and Beckman will assume ongoing customer support. "The addition of the Aurora products and technology to our product line addresses the high-growth assay miniaturization market in drug discovery and genomics," said Chris Neary, vice president of Biomarker Discovery and Automation for Beckman Coulter.

The Aurora Discovery products acquired by Beckman include the BioRAPTR* automated disposer and NanoRAPTR* liquid handler (see IBO 2/15/05), PicoRAPTR* and Scout MPD* Multi-Piezo dispensing platforms, as well as tire tcPR* fluorescence plate reader for 1536- and 3456-well plates. Aurora's ChemLib microplates are now available from Aurora Biotechnologies, which was formed by Aurora Discovery executives. Beckman will distribute ChemLib microplates worldwide.
