Beauty spot volunteers win award.

A WALSALL group has been named volunteer of the year for its hard work and dedication in maintaining Cannock Chase's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The Walsall Ramblers group has been named the AONB Volunteer of the Year 2012.

It comes after they scoped and led nine circular AONB walks, undertook scrub and invasive weeds clearance, helped show the sights of the AONB to Welsh visitors, attended formal meetings and supported volunteer events.

Coun Carl Bennett, Cannock Chase Council's representative on Cannock Chase AONB joint committee thanked the ramblers for their "continued hard work and dedication".

Walsall Ramblers branch chair Dick Turton said: "We're so lucky to have Cannock Chase AONB to ramble on, and so it's a pleasure to offer our time to protect the valuable heathland, and help more people to discover it."
