Beauty: Beverly Cobella's girls' night out; Calling all you boho chicks, it's time to party. This year's native look is pure glam.

Byline: Tricia Welch

If you loved last season's plaits, you'll go mad for the latest bohemian style inspired by Frida, the film based on the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, played by Salma Hayek (below). Frida braided her dark hair in a thick plait, coiling it round her head to devastating effect, then added flowers. It's a great twist on prairie style - perfect for clubbing your way through Christmas.

Get the look

You need longish hair for this, at least to your shoulders. Wash and blow-dry the night before and apply a straightening balm.

AM Pack your party gear for changing in the office later, plus a comb, a bottle of serum and your essential accessory, a ponytail switch about 18in long. Plait it in the normal way and secure at the bottom with a narrow, covered band. Make sure the plait is not too long - for this style it's secured just behind the ears, so trim to size.

PM In the office loo. This look is great with the hair pulled back, but if you've a fringe like our model, wear it low-slung. Apply a little smoothing mousse, then blow-dry the hair to one side. Next, backcomb the hair on the crown. Taking inch-width sections of hair, comb each one flat then hold upwards before combing downwards, a few inches from the roots to create texture. When the crown section has been backcombed, take your comb over the surface and smooth into position. Now place your plait in position in front of the backcombed area, and grip either end behind the ears, inserting grips through the plait and natural hair so they form a cross. Then conceal more grips underneath the plait. Finish by combing the loose hair smooth, then spraying with serum for a glassy shine.
