Beautification of Kartarpura Food Street begins today.
The beautification of Kartarpura Food Street will begin today (Friday) so it can be made functional before Ramazan, a meeting chaired by the deputy commissioner was informed on Thursday.
Others in attendance included Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood and MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafique, as well as senior district administration and traffic police officials.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa asked owners of food outlets to install CCTV cameras on their premises, make arrangements to accommodate families and ensure a clean atmosphere. He said the food street would be developed on the pattern of Lahore and would be made functional before Ramazan, as most people will visit for sehri and iftar.
He said traffic police would make parking arrangements in the area and ensure traffic flows smoothly. The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company was asked to clean the area every day as well as nearby nullahs and drains to prevent water from accumulating in coming rainfall.
He said business activity would increase once the area is declared a food street, and the culture of the Potohar region will be showcased there as well.
Traders also expressed their reservations over the new food street, and were told by senior district administration officials that business activities would increase and traders would benefit from the opportunity.
