Beatrice Ortega is a Rising Star.

Beatrice Ortega, the president and founder of Dot Construction of N.Y., received a Rising Star Award from the Latino Job Service Employer Committee (JSEC) and the New York State Department of Labor at the organizations' sixth annual awards reception.

Ms. Ortega was nominated for the award by Professional Women in Construction (PWC).

Yolanda De Los Reyes, project trabajo coordinator with the NYS Department of Labor's division of employment services and the Latino JSEC coordinator, said that Ms. Ortega was selected because "she has managed, despite the odds, to achieve success as a woman in a nontraditional field; she's making her company grow; and she still finds the time to help her community."

"Viva las mujeres!" proclaimed Suzie David, president of Asian & Hispanic Trading & Consulting, as she presented the award to Ms. Ortega. Ms. David praised the honoree as "a lady who excels in construction."

She noted, "In a man's world, you will be taken seriously only if you mean business."
