Be prepared to eat humble pie; Views of the North.

THE front page of The Journal on December 1 was uncharacteristically histrionic. A small section of the working population chose to throw its political weight about to no general purpose or benefit.

We are all in the present mess together, be we public or private servants, or the large number of retirees who cannot go on strike.

The situation worldwide is dire, as it is in the European Union and our own domestic front. Mistakes have been made, heads should have rolled, excuses have been routinely proffered, fooling no one.

We must ALL come to our collective senses and be prepared to eat the humble pie which circumstances demand. JOHN WARMINGHAM, Wetheral.
