Be more like Americans!
The Islamic Republic is complaining that the Philippines aren't as generous as the US government and is demanding that Filipinos act more like Americans! Twenty Iranians were killed June 13 when the bus in which they were riding to an outing left the road and plummeted into a ravine. The bus company has offered damages of 60,000 Philippine pesos ($1,350) to each victim's kin. ABS-CBN News of the Philippines reports that Iran has complained that that is not enough and has told the bus company the Americans paid reparations of $60,000 for every Iranian killed when the US Navy shot down an Iranian airliner in 1988. The sum of $60,000 is the minimum payment required for airline fatalities under international law, which has no payment figure for bus crashes.
