HE coalition Government's Tplans for House of Lords reform could be grievously damaged by MPs today.
An alliance of rebellious Tory MPs and an opportunistic Labour Party, bolstered by Lib Dem mavericks, threatens to push reform of the Lords off the political agenda for a decade or more.
But Conservative rebels ought to be careful what they wish for. The general election they crave would likely result in the country turning further away from the right-wing agenda they wish to pursue.
More cuts in the public sector? More tax breaks for the wealthy? Fewer rights for employees? Means testing for pensioners? How many do they think will vote for all that?
