Bay may help Hobbs keep up Golden winter; RACING AHEAD.

Byline: with CHRIS WRIGHT

THE big Saturday chases come thick and fast at this time of the year.

And they don't come much bigger than next weekend's Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. It is one of the early winter highlights and is always fascinating for both the race itself and future chases including the biggest - the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Crabbie's Grand National. Pointers could be found for those.

The most likely winner could be Fingal Bay (8-1 generally) for the in-form Philip Hobbs' stable. Hobbs has been banging in the big Saturday (and Sunday) winners for much of the first few months.

Fingal Bay could keep it going. He is yet to run this term but has won on his first start for the past four seasons. The former Grade One-winning staying hurdler has only had four chase starts but has class and is open to plenty of improvement.

Nicky Henderson has won the last two runnings so bet365 Gold Cup winner Hadrian's Approach (16-1 Stan James, BetVictor) has a chance of making it three in a row.
